The Wyoming Veterans Memorial Museum in Casper is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. The museum showcases donated military artifacts from Wyoming natives, displayed chronologically and accompanied by insightful commentary from the knowledgeable curator. It's a great opportunity to learn about the significant role played by Wyoming in WWII. Housed in an authentic WWII building with original soldier-painted murals, the museum offers a personal and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
Good place to visit lots of history and very nice staff

Great museum. I was traveling from Buffalo to Aurora when I saw the sign on I-25, so I detoured off to see the museum.
Mark P — Google review
I may be mistaken, but from what I understood from the curator, all the pieces displayed are donations from families whose loved ones served in the military, all natives of Wyoming. The museum is well put together and displayed in chronological order. The curator was very knowledgeable in regards to facts and history of the locale. If you're into military history, it's definitely worth it to visit.

I really enjoyed this museum. It was raining out so a trip here was perfect. Lots of local historical items- From area forts along the Bozeman trail, to the Johnson Co Cattle war, to Butch Cassidy and the Hole in the Wall Gang, as well as some Native American items and even a neat collection of Paleo Indian items. Also some buildings behind it like and old schoolhouse , a sheep wagon and an old jail….. easy parking, good hours, be sure to stop if you at in the area!!

Great small museum. They have a neat collection of artifacts that are good family conversation starters. I really enjoyed the school house. It is free, however donations are accepted.

A small time capsule from Wyoming's past; primarily dedicated to the true King Of Wyoming, Chris LeDoux. This sleepy little town is comprised of the friendliest people on the planet, and Hoofprints of the Past, often times is the general gathering place to talk ranching, or rodeo. Great memorabilia and wonderful people indeed.

This museum does an amazing job capturing the amazing history of this area (Johnson County War, Hole in the Wall gang, much much more) and the museum volunteers are delightful and knowledgable.

By far the best museum I have ever been in. Real displays from real people in history and tons of it. The restored buildings out back were super cool and the stories behind alot of the displays were great.

Beautiful little memorial park honoring one of the most talented artists "beneath these western skies." Rodeo legend, and singer Chris Ledoux. I have been a fan since I was a kid, so it was a must stop for me when I saw the sign saying Chris Ledoux Park. It is a small, well-kept park with a few benches and a larger than life statue of Chris riding a bronc atop a guitar surrounded by offerings of Copenhagen left by visitors honoring one of his fan favorites. Kacee is such a small, friendly town that it to me was worth the visit. There is a small gift shop selling Leddoux (you can buy Ned Ledoux merch as well) shirts and hats across the street, and a small bar/restaurant two doors down that looked like a good time. If I only had the time to grab a Coors. For me, it was a once in a lifetime experience that I would do again given the opportunity.

Beautiful well-kept gardens and an outstanding tribute to one of the all time greats.

I'm a huge Chris Ledoux fan so my opinion is a little biased. Really impressed with the statue that combines rodeo and music! Kaycee seems like the perfect place for this you can see and feel what inspired his music.

The man was a legend and I am impressed by this monument. It was very well sculpted and honored Chris' rodeo and music together. Although I did not come to Wyoming specifically for this I would not have traveled through the state without seeing it! Rest well Beneath These Western Skies!

I was so impressed with this museum. We came through here with our pathfinders group during the camporee. They did so many awesome things to host pathfinders from having an exhibit of pathfinders to creating a pin for our kiddos to trade that showcased our camporee. They even had extra staff to support the thousands of kids that would come through. Thank you so much for all the work you put into hosting our pathfinders! I would come here again if I were ever in gillette again. The exhibits were engaging and thought out. We really enjoyed it.

John P — Google review
This was out first visit here and I must say I was not expecting what we walked into. We assumed it was a Rock Museum based on the name. This museum has a bit of everything in it. A lot of history of Gillette and how things use to be. There is a small gift shop and some items throughout are "hands on". We really enjoyed walking through and getting a history lesson. Plus it's free.

Love this small town museum. Has so much history to look through, having the old school and then a whole other area set up to replicate a home, newspaper, doctor from way back when is super neat to see.

Very cool museum with historical information of artifacts from the early 1800s up to the 1960s. Also some interesting dinosaur fossils and an entire caboose you can go inside. Worth a visit.
Spencer G — Google review
It looks small, but it has a huge amount of informative displays! We spent almost 2 hours checking it out with our 10 year old granddaughter. Don't forget to ask for the sheet to go on a dinosaur hunt through the exhibits. Definitely worth the trip.
Gina H — Google review
Just a heads up, there are no rocks inside the Rock Pile Museum. This is more of a Gillette historical museum. They have nice memorabilia and displays featuring residents that have served on the military, past and current sheriff's, coal mining, and a lot of historical saddles. While the name is a little misleading, it's definitely worth the visit to learn some local history.

Good little museum. Lots of stuff to read and look at. There were hands-on displays for the kids scattered throughout the museum. The A/C was wonderful and the gift shop area was adequate. Thus museum relies on donations and has free admission.

Great escape room! Watch carefully for the turn as it kinda just looks like a parking lot. (No room on the big sign and the city won't let her put her own small sign) The kids and I did the escaped spider room and it was fun! Challenging, but we found it in time!

We were visiting from out of state and got a chance to visit Mystery 307 and do the Party to Die For. I had my 22 year old son and two teenage daughters with me. We really thought the theming was great with the 1920s music playing, the flappers dresses, and the way the body was dressed. We thought the puzzles were fun (and some were hard!) We did have to get some help because of the clever red herrings. After we were done, we bought a hoodie, t-shirt, and wooden puzzle that was for sale. The hoodie and t-shirt are designed well with graphics on the front and back. Our hostess was awesome and if we visit Wyoming again, we’d definitely return and do another escape room!

What a great escape room!We are in town for my daughter's swim meet, and we needed to burn some time up the night before. We found 307 online, called to make a reservation, to go figure out a Murder Mystery. We did get a little lost on the way to 307 Mysteries (don't listen to Google when it tells you to turn off of Highway 14, stay on the highway and look for the sign), and I'll be quite honest, with my first born child in the car, I was a little leery about going into an area that looked like we were about to be a part of a real murder mystery. Nothing bad, but it's in a remote and industrial location, but totally safe.Mom and daughter team run the place, and they were super sweet, and we went and did our escape room, with 5 minutes to spare! We had an absolute blast!Next time we're in town for another swim meet, we will be going again! 😎👍

Great food, fair prices, and friendly staff! Pizza and barbecued pork was excellent. We were visiting Gillette for the day and our waitress gave us great recommendations and information. Atmosphere is really cool, as it is housed in an old post office.

Pretty decent food - we all got pizza. Some of the beers were flat, but most had good taste to them. Service was ok. Seemed like it would be a fun place to hang, so maybe we just came near close or on an off day. Wasn't super impressed, but would maybe come here again to give it a second chance.

I'm sorry I really tried to give these guys a chance. The first time I ordered food to go from here it was a mess. So I called let them know and said I'll come in and give you guys about chance. The beer is pretty good but the food is awful. NYC style pizza is only famous in New York and it sucks there to. The salads are disappointing at best. Tried their beer bread which was odd to say the least. The staff was very nice but that doesn't make up for the food. These guys are right around their three year mark from what I can tell, it's make or break time hopefully they haven't lost their passion.
Dan L — Google review
This place is phenomenal, the owners are fantastic and so is the food. I come to breweries with my husband, who is a huge beer fan but I am not. I actually throughly enjoyed two of the beers, the Longreach and the Thorn Berry and I had two glasses of them when I usually struggle to finish a flight glass. Such delicious beers! Highly recommended, even if you're not a huge beer person!
Samantha H — Google review
Located in an old post office downtown, the atmosphere was top notch. Would have been 5 stars, but they overcooked the pizza just a bit. I'd recommend the Locomotive Brown Ale.

This museum is a real gem. It has many relevant artifacts, and the staff was very informative. The owners should be proud of what they have done here. This museum does not get the publicity it deserves. Easily could have spent a couple of days there just browsing, asking questions, learning. I will forever recommend it as a place to stop!

Lakeside area for fishing, birdwatching & camping, plus a full-service marina with a general store.
Spent the weekend at Keyhole State Park and I highly recommend visiting if even for a day trip. The park has beautiful terrain which is more impressive as it is kept incredibly clean.Keyhole is large enough that even on a busy day it does not feel crowded. There is plenty of room to do any activity you're set out for.

Such a great park. We stayed in Tatanka campground on the east end of the reservoir. We were in tent site #42. Great view of the reservoir, close to potable water and bathrooms. Also like the fact that showers ($0.50/3 min) are nearby, and they have warm water! There is a nice little beach just down the main road about 2 mins away). Nice sandy bottom and the water is nice and cool. It was 95 when we were there, so the cool water was welcome. Also like the fact that Pinehaven is about 12 mins away. There is a small market that has assorted items to supplement your camping needs. The only complaints I have is an active fire ban in place which prohibits camp fires in the fire rings. That's not the park's fault. In fact, the rule is no visible flame allowed. We used a camp chef with a grill box, and that was ok. Just as long as you cannot see the flame, you'll be ok. My second complaint is dogs are not allowed on the beach. Really?! Since we brought our pooch camping, that meant someone had to stay back at the campsite with the dog. Kinda lame. But overall, it was a good time. It's a long way, so I don't know when we will be back. Glendo has a better beach and is half the distance, but then again Glendo has raccoons and so many flies. Keyhole really didn't have many bugs. There were ants and gnats, but not many flies and no mosquitoes.

Stayed 6/27/2024. Tatanka campground. The good: decent sized well spaced sites with a view of the little bay. The bad: the park has 9 campgrounds with only 1 shower building with 4 coin operated showers and the change machine was not working shower head was small and not much water pressure, cement picnic table which I hate, very dusty dirt road. Glad we stayed only 1 night. $18 for the site, $10 for electricity, $8 reservation fee,$12 non resident vehicle fee, plus taxes and convenience fee total $51.60 for one night!
Stanton S — Google review
Beautiful park with campgrounds. We camped. Arch Rock camping pads didn't seem to be level. But we knew in advance, so we brought extra plastic levelers. It was very peaceful. ✌️

Visit August 2021, Cabin 1: Beautiful campground with amazing views of the reservoir all around. Very quiet with minimal human or animal noises. It was a bit of a drive (too far to walk) to the showers but very clean and in the open. There was an outhouse nearby that we could use throughout the day.IMPORTANT NOTE: Showers were coin operated. Bring quarters or cash for exchange machine. We stayed in a cabin on the shoreline. Very peaceful and the perfect location to look out at the water or walk the shoreline. We swam at the beach for awhile and were the only people there. The sunsets from the beach were SPECTACULAR! We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this state park!Nearest gas station is a long drive away too. Come prepared with enough ice or build the drive to get ice into your itinerary.
Sarah C — Google review
Beach was small and there were lots of weeds in the sand. The kind of weeds that have hard branches that poke through your shoes. The views were beautiful at sunset. The beach was shallow which made swimming awesome! The park itself was weird because we had to take a gravel road for almost an hour to find the park. When we got there, they said you could only book a camp site over the phone or online. We use Roger's phone carrier as we are Canadian and there was no network at all. Eventually they let us book at the toll booth but it took a while to convince them. It was $33 USD to tent camp for one night with no hookups. They have no convenience store anywhere in the park. There is a restaurant at the marina but it was hard to find parking and you would have to walk through a bunch of private cabin trailers to get there. We skipped it. Campsite was quiet and not very occupied. Lots of stars. We stayed at the Homestead campground and there was a firepit, but nowhere to get wood that we were able to find. Cement picnic tables which were way more practical than traditional wood picnic tables.
Dani A — Google review
The park was lovely but the bathrooms. Lawd. The flies. It was like something out of a horror movie.

Huge camping area from rustic to luxurious. Beautiful water view. Discounts for Wyoming residents. Restrooms are primitive and shower facilities are always from campsites.

This place is amazing!!! My family has camped here twice and go fishing here. But this was my first and my goodness, nature is a beautiful thing🥰 Try to be careful on where u reserve though. Some designated tent sites are too small if u have a big tent. We were at the Tatanka section. They also have cabins. I highly recommend it here. Also, on a side note, for the bathrooms, they keep them pretty clean and actually smelling good😄

The Devils Tower Visitor Center is a charming log cabin nestled in the dense trees at the end of the park road. Built in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, it offers assistance to visitors and features interpretive displays, maps, and Junior Ranger booklets. The center also houses a small gift shop and provides a great view of Devils Tower from its parking lot. Visitors can explore educational exhibits and enjoy clean facilities while taking in the surrounding wildlife.
This place is amazing and pictures can't do it justice. The sheer height of the tower is astounding. I recommend the hike to the base as it is paved and fairly easy.
Alex M — Google review
I got here right when it opened at 0900 and was hoping I’d be one of the first there but the park opens long before that so there were already several cars parked. Most people were on the walking trails or just admiring the Devil’s Tower. The visitor center has some really cool and fun souvenirs. They have some displays and reading material about Devils Tower. I’m always a sucker for the small gifts and they had plenty. They do have restrooms downstairs in the back. If you are going to see Devil’s Tower and want to walk one of the trails around I would recommend getting there early to get parking and walk, then going to the visitor center after it opens at 0900 on your way out.

Always a thrill to visit Devils Tower National Monument and Visitor Center in NE Wyoming. The tower is considered sacred by Northern Plains Indians and indigenous people, was made famous as a set piece in Steven Spielberg's 1977 film 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind,' and was the first national monument established in the US in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt. Standing 867 feet from base to summit, the tower has hundreds of parallel cracks that make it one of the finest crack climbing areas in North America. If climbing isn't for you, there's a marvelous paved, 1.3-mile trail that starts across the parking area from the Visitor Center that leads you to a junction that you can take either way to walk around the base of the Tower. Friendly staff, views of the prairie floor, a wonderful campground, prairie dogs galore, and nearby services, all make for a magical visit. Check it out!

Uniquely fascinating. Great place for short prairie hiking. Loop trail gives history of first climbs as well as views over surrounding prairie. Good gift shop and small but interesting visitor center. Well worth 2+ hour drive from Custer State Park. Only problem was the stoplight restricting traffic into parking lot was on, when there was plenty of parking. That led to an unnecessary 30 minute delay to park.

Great place to visit. The tower is mind boggling.A must see.

Parking at this National Site is disgraceful. I rolled up around 11am on a Sunday, went through the gate, and got stuck in a traffic jam 1 mile from the visitor center. There was a giant queue of cars waiting for parking spots to open up. I simply couldn't sacrifice hours of my day waiting for a parking spot.At the very least they should warn visitors about the parking situation before entering OR only charge guests $25 if they successfully park their car (as opposed to charging people for just entering the park). The park ranger sheepishly told me I should try to "come back in the morning" as I left. Thanks but I've got places to be lady.Anyways, you can take great photos of Devils Tower from the shopping plaza outside the park. Just go there instead.
Kevin M — Google review
Devils Tower National Monument is a beautiful location to visit in northeastern Wyoming. It was the first United States national monument. It was established on September 24, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. In modern times it is best known for its appearance in the Steven Spielberg's 1977 movie, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." It is the site chosen by the aliens to make their official contact with the earthlings and from which point Richard Dreyfuss departs with them to travel to the stars. The prairie dogs were amusing too!

Wow.... every time I have been traveling near the devils tower area. I have just ignored it and drove past. NEVER AGAIN... I would recommend highly that you stop in and enjoy the view. Amazing

Loved this place 🩷 11/10, highly recommend. Super easily to walk around, very quick and stunningly beautiful!

Was a great trip kids and wife loved the trails and the sites, I do recommend to go early or you could have a very long wait to get in.
Heath T — Google review
Pleasantly surprised!! When you see it from a distance, the monument t is so tall that trees around it seem insignificant. It appears as a solitary thing you are going to see... however, there is so much more to see and appreciate!! Wild life, hiking trails, transitioning terrain, the history... all engaging and worth experiencing!! ♡

First visit and I found it to be worth the detour from my route. Devils Tower was much larger than it appears on TV or in photos. You can drive close to the tower without paying to go into the park but it may be the only visit I have to this site so I payed the $25 per car to drive in and get up close. Also you can go through the free visitors center with interpretive displays and a small gift shop. You can even stamp your passport with an official stamp. Free binoculars are in site to zoom in on the first National Monument. Look for the Buffalo and Longhorns in the field outside the park entrance.

The visitors center opens at 09:00am. It's small but has all the usual items for sale, including magnets which I bought. The restroom is outside the gift shop and it's a vault toilet with no running water. I visited July 02, 2024.

I recently visited Devils Tower and had a wonderful experience! The employees were exceptionally nice and helpful, providing excellent customer service throughout my visit. They were eager to share their knowledge and ensured that I felt welcome. The selection of souvenirs available was impressive, offering a variety of unique items that capture the essence of the area. I appreciated the abundance of information on the history of Devils Tower, which deepened my understanding of its significance to Native Americans and its role in American history. The stories behind the tower and its cultural importance were well-presented and truly enriching.Overall, my visit was both enjoyable and educational, thanks to the friendly staff and the wealth of information available. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

This was just plain awesome!!! Unique and spectacular. A great hike and wonderful view. I would definitely go back…

Awesome attraction! It can be seen from miles away. A rock climbers paradise or as a tourist. Several nice trails to chose from. Moderate to strenuous . I took the Trail Loop which is a little over a mile and is paved. You will circle the base of the Tower and wasn't too much of a strenuous hike. There are several resting benches along the way. If you take your binoculars, you should be able to see people repelling down the side. Near the entry gate, there is a Prarie dog pasture just full of the the critters. The entry fee of $25 is paid when you leave. The NP Lifetime Pass is good here. I would recommend you arrive early and avoid the crowds. When I was leaving the park, around 12 pm there were cars lined up for approximately a mile get in.

Nice little visitor center. I loved the alien as you walk in. The staff is very knowledgeable and welcoming. There are several exhibits that are very educational. Small gift shop if you would like to purchase souvenirs. There is a great view of Devils tower from the parking lot. Very clean and plenty of parking

A big rock 🪨 haha getting in was a bit annoying. There was a STOP light that took nearly 1 hour to get through for almost no reason that we could tell was a bit crowded but we didn't care

Tower Trail is the trail you’ll want to do to get as close as possible to Devils Tower. it is a loop around Devils Tower. this loop is the most popular thing to do in the park. This trail is pretty easy and gives you some great views of the tower. If you want to truly be quick and not hike the whole 1.3-mile paved trail, then you will want to start off the loop going LEFT when you are starting from the visitor center. (There is a spot once you start the trail where there are seemingly 2 ways to go, straight and to the left.) Then soon you will see the massive Devil's Tower in front of you.but I would recommend doing the whole tower trail (just 1.3 miles) it will give you different angles of Devils Tower. it is the only trail that is paved. However, do remember that climbing on the rocks isn’t allowed without a permit so stay off of the boulders.

Sights & Landmarks
The first National Monument in the US, Devils Tower is a climbable rock formation revered by Native American tribes. Visitors cannot miss this impressive and unique landmark with its hexagonal columns rising significantly higher than any other nearby structures. The camp at the base of the tower fills up quickly, so it's advisable to book ahead if planning to stay overnight. Overall, Devils Tower National Monument is an essential stop for those traveling from the east towards Yellowstone National Park.
America's first national monument definitely did not disappoint! It was a busy day, so I would suggest getting there early in the day to avoid a wait to get to the parking area. We hiked the trail all the way around the tower. It's paved & a fairly easy walk. No matter how many photos I've seen of it when you see it in person, it's surreal.
Rusty L — Google review
This is a magical place. We thoroughly enjoyed the moderate 1.6 mile loop trail around the tower. We saw deer and tons of prairie dogs. If using the restrooms, I recommend using the ones in the building to the side of the visitors center. The ones at the bottom of the trail have no running water.
Carrie M — Google review
The hike around Devils Tower is a surreal and humbling experience that every outdoor enthusiast should add to their bucket list. The Tower Trail, a 1.3-mile loop around the base of the monument, offers breathtaking views from every angle and is suitable for hikers of all skill levels. As you make your way around the tower, the sheer size and mystical presence of this natural wonder become more apparent. The trail is well-maintained and provides several points where you can pause to appreciate the towering rock formation that has inspired Native American legends for centuries.Along the path, you’ll encounter a variety of landscapes—ranging from shaded forests and sun-drenched clearings to rocky outcroppings and open meadows. The trail offers frequent glimpses of wildlife, I spotted soaring hawks above, two doe’s, a fawn and squirrels. The prairie dogs were a delight to watch on the road leading up to the tower. What truly stands out about this hike is the feeling of peaceful solitude it brings. Even with other hikers around, there’s a sense of reverence for the natural beauty that surrounds you. Whether it’s the wind whispering through the trees or the sight of climbers scaling the rock face in the distance (I saw 5), Devils Tower offers an unforgettable connection to nature.Overall, this hike is a perfect combination of easy accessibility, stunning views, and a unique geological wonder that inspires both awe and reflection.

Amazing rock formation and beautiful setting. Recent storm damage was dealt with so trails were clear. A number of climbers were on the tower with different approaches to the summit. It was great to watch them climbing.Gift shop was adequate. Park staff were very kind and helpful.

Beautiful place to visit, been wanting to visit since watching Close Ecounters of 3rd kind when I was a teen. Get there early for good parking and to take amazing morning/ sunrise pictures. The tower trail is shorter and had much better views of the tower. Do the red trail if you have extra time.
Holly F — Google review
My wife and I came here with my two toddlers, as well as my parents and nieces. The roads into the park are nice, but be prepared for a 1 - to 2-hour wait at the entrance if you don't get there early. The parking is limited, so they stop people outside of the parking area to wait for spaces to open up.Once you're in, the park is good. There are two trails that surround the tower. My wife and mother took the shorter trail, which is paved. My father, nieces, and I took the longer trail, which follows a much larger perimeter. There isn't much for facilities there, so be prepared for that.Overall, it was a pretty good experience!

Amazing views. Not a difficult hike. Way worth it to be in this beautiful, breathtaking scenery. $25 a car. We got there early so we had no issues with parking and were not crowded or pushed by other visitors. We took our time & really enjoyed it. The restrooms were clean. No pets on the trails. There is a visitor/gift shop, but it was not open during our trip.
Arletta C — Google review
A wonderful way to spend a day! You can hike all around the peak, if you register you can climb it. Beautiful place!!! Visitor center and gift shop, the also have water outside. The bathrooms could use some work while I was there but it's because the public was not respectful by urinating all over the toilets so there was no place to go. It was still worth the $25 to get into the 🏞️ park. It's breathtaking.
Misti S — Google review
Definitely worth going to see this beautiful national monument. The visitors center was very nice and had some cool books and souvenirs. Parking can be a bit of a wait. But we visited on a Tuesday and it wasn't too bad.

Go early!! We were there by 9:30 and hardly any crowds. When we left at 11 it was horrible! The 1.6 mile hike around the base was stunning and you could get up close to the base and touch it! Incredible!! Saw and heard climbers! What a fantastic place to visit! The Ponderosa Pines, once matured and the bark turns to a Carmel color, smell like vanilla or cotton candy! Worth the drive! Very majestic!! Loved it!

Very unique geology. Many rock climbers. The loop trail is easy to walk. The weather is unpredictable and may rain on/off. The car parking waiting line can be an hour during peak time so come either early or late to avoid traffic.

I arrived early (around 6:15am). I have a annual park pass so I didn't have to pay online per instructions at the ranger shack at the entrance. I parked at the visitor center. The restroom was in satisfactory condition and a park worker was cleaning them as I was leaving. I did the tower trail and it was well maintained (and clearly marked not ADA compliant). The views were amazing and the loop was perfect for me. I was focused on the tower and looking ahead so I will confess I missed the turn to go back to the parking lot. It's kinda embarrassing. I went to the right around the tower walked past the benches and missed seeing the path angled back towards the parking lot. I realized it pretty quick , turned around and took a picture of the area approaching the benches so you can see the path to the left of the benches as you look at the picture. Even sharing my embarrassing story doesn't overshadow the amazing time I had.

This is an unbelievable landmark to experience based on its uniqueness and presence. There is some special history to it, but the landmark that was used in the filming of close encounters of the third kind. The surrounding landscape and contrary colors make this an unforgettable experience and should be, a must see on your list
Shawn F — Google review
The walking path around the base is wonderful. It's paved but has some elevations changes not by much. Some benches or rocks located around to rest as needed. Make sure to come early. On the way out there was a huge lineup of cars waiting to get in.
Matt — Google review
The trail was super lovely and you got to meet some of the climbers when they came down. All of them were super nice and we're excited to talk to everyone even though they didn't need to. They were just people on vacation too:))The devil's tower itself is so gorgeous and photos absolutely DON'T do it justice. There was also some rock area where the public were allowed to climb and take photos, but if you wanted to actually climb Devil's Tower, you have to register, but I am unsure how much that cost, if any.
Gremlin K — Google review
We arrived reasonably early and we were able to drive right up to the visitor center. We were on a Motorcycle and there is a nice area for bikes. The hike around the peak was a very pleasant walk with good views all the way around. Overall a unique experience and glad we came. When we left at noon, there was a large line up at the signal to allow cars up to the visitor center- over 100 cars and Motorcycles. There were lots of Motorcycle spots available but because there is no one staffing the signal, the bike was stuck in with the cars. Overall the current process does not really fully utilize the parking and makes the wait time longer than needed.
Dave H — Google review
Great place to visit. Great views here and around the area. This National Monument has everything needed to be a smaller National Park. It has campground, picnic area, trails and a small visitor center.
Wyatt P — Google review
Pretty decent stop. Unless you drive all the way to the visitor center (you can't with a trailer) there is about a 1.3 mile hike to get pretty close to the formation. Plan for at least a couple hours.Visit center is small and nothing to great. Make sure you bring water if you plan to do hiking, they had limited options to refill bottles.
Sam R — Google review
It is a bit of a drive off the main drag to get here, but it is something that is worth seeing at least once. I guess more than once since this is my third time. The visitor center is small but informative and the parking is adequate. The picnic area is down at the campground rather than up the hill at the visitor center. There's a nice, shaded, trail that is 1.3 miles long that goes around the tower and is paved the whole way. That being said the trail is a bit slick and steep in places.
Jesse H — Google review
Incredible site to see. Saw climbers on a ledge high up day we visited. Hiked around the whole base of the geologic wonder which is important if you can do as it shows the slightly different sides. Only took about 45 minutes with great views of the surrounding flatlands. Hike is not difficult but it's not flat either. Absolutely worth the visit. The largest example of this particular formation in the world. Lakotas called it Bear Lodge which we humbly feel looks and sounds more accurate! Also the center of the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind!

Located just outside the entrance to Devils Tower, the Devils Tower Trading Post and KOA offer a range of amenities including food options, souvenirs, gifts, and camping supplies. The trading post is known for its variety of gifts and souvenirs while also providing food options. Visitors can expect a spacious parking lot with stunning views but should be prepared for potential crowding during peak times.
SO. MANY. SOUVENIRS! I mean they have just about everything you could want. This being one of the hottest trails for people riding motorcycles they have a lot of stuff related to motorcycles. I bought a few of the regular small souvenirs that I always get at places and I feel like the prices were fair or comparable to what I’ve spent other places. They have all kinds of stickers, patches, shirts, hoodies and just so much more. There is another shop across the road but they don’t have near as much to choose from as this place does.
Loftin A — Google review
Great service in the ice cream department. Fantastic view of the Devil's Tower from the back porch.
Plumeria B — Google review
Disappointed at how excessively overpriced this souvenir shop was. Sweatshirts were over $60 and a minimum of $35 on t-shirts. For a place that seems to depend on tourism, you’d think they would price it a little better for the patrons of their business. You do actually want people to buy stuff, don’t ya? I travel extensively, and I do my best to support local businesses, but this entire place seemed too excessive.

We decided to make a small side trip to Devil's Tower from Deadwood. Instead of waiting for parking closer up we stopped here. What a great choice! Perfect views and photos ops out back. A wonderful selection of unique gifts and souvenirs. We grabbed some delicious ice cream and ate as we relaxed on the front porch. Later that evening we realized our son had misplaced his wallet. I called the next day and spoke with Tom, the general manager. He said he had it and I asked if he would just mail the money, using some to pay for the stamp. He said he would cover it, no problem. Well we got home to Iowa today and found his wallet and money in the mail!! He went above and beyond and we are SO thankful! Will definitely try and go back someday!

The first stop before you go into the devils tower park. Grab some refreshments and use restroom before going in. Trading post offers variety of memorabilia, the local root beer is pretty good.

Avoid the food bar. $6.99 for an hours old microwaved corn dog which was inedible. Also $6.99 for the pretzel and cheese which tasted like it was found laying in the weeds outdoors, brushed off, and then put under the heat lamp. The flies buzzing around the area were a nice touch. Save your money and go across the street to the cafe at the KOA. Much better experience.

Souvenirs galore. Go check out the Close Encounters vintage memorabilia display cabinet at the back of the store.(items in case are not for sale) Nice collection of items you’ll enjoy if you’ve seen the movie.Lots of alien souvenirs also. Kids loved it!We stopped in for ice cream but it was closed due to off-season.

The store is pretty expensive, but considering that it is in a tourist location, it is expected. There is plenty of good stuff sold, and the employees are pretty nice.

Devils Tower Trading Post is a must-visit spot for anyone in the area. The store boasts a fantastic selection of souvenirs, from T-shirts to unique local crafts, ensuring you’ll find something special to remember your trip. The on-site kitchen offers a convenient variety of snacks, including pretzels, burgers, coffee, and other beverages, perfect for refueling during your visit. While there are no restrooms inside—only portable toilets in the parking lot—the stunning view of Devils Tower from the back of the facility more than makes up for it. The combination of great shopping, tasty food, and breathtaking scenery makes it well worth the stop.

Excellent place to find souvenirs, gifts, foods, drinks and beverages. Parking lot has a good amount of space. Just be aware that if the lot is full, the place will be shoulder to shoulder. It is a bit tight inside if there is over 10+ cars in the lot. The view is amazing from the location as well. The bathrooms are good if you need to use it. Not the cleanest but still good to use. The employees are nice. The store has many gifts to choose from. Overall, a nice place to buy Devil's Tower gifts.

If you love western history, this museum is a must-see. It’s wonderful that it’s housed in the historic schoolhouse, built in 1923 to ensure area youth had the opportunity to receive a high school education.

Awesome museum. The staff was helpful and informative, knew a lot about the history and local area. This place was filled to the brim, and much larger than you would think going in. You could spend about an hour here if you took your time. The majority of the pieces were donated by local pioneer families, which just adds to the authenticity. The museum will soon move to the schoolhouse on the side street by sometime around february. Great spot.

Very interesting history of Crook country. A lot of artifacts to look at. The 5$ admission was well worth it. Friendly staff .

What an amazing museum! A lovingly assembled collection of artifacts from the area has been turned into a storyline that describes what was life like here. Even the building itself is a 100+ years old school building that was state of the art when it was built, and still looks quite impressive on the outside as well as on the inside. Even the courthouse furniture has been preserved and arranged to show the layout of the courtroom of the times long past. Highly recommended to stop and enjoy.

This museum is awesome! If you're wanting to learn about the Sundance Kid, this is your place. There's also so much more to discover as well. There's so much information about Crook County. These small town museums can be a treasure trove of understanding the history and geography of an area in a way that nothing else can. This museum does not disappoint, and is one of the best examples of why these museums need our support. You’ll find artifacts exclusively donated from county residents and the local government, many from families that still live in town. The dioramas will give you perspective over the geography, and illustrate historical sites in a way that nothing else can. There was only one small tv screen in the museum. There were no fancy apps or iPads to see or use, which makes the entire museum itself feel like another time altogether. No amount of internet search is going to tell you the story like the wonderful locals volunteering at this museum. While some of the signage is quaint, you can tell a lot of love and care has been put into maintaining this facility for future generations.

Daddy, Mommy and I stopped in Sundance, Wyoming on the way to Devil's Tower to see the statue of Harry "Sundance Kid" Longabaugh. Passing through in our 43' 5th Wheel & stopped to let our big puppy out to do his business but there were no pet friendly areas that we could find. We even saw another rv couple where the wife had to walk her dog down the side of the hilly road, (just feet from traffic) going out just to give her pup some exercise & such. The husband drove down to the exit & picked them up on the way out. Was rather disappointed with the lack of pet space available here. Although to be fair, we didn't go out walking around the parking lot to find out if there was a better option as we didn't see any signs indicating anything for pet use. The parking lot was pretty busy & it was pretty hot out so I didn't want my big puppy out walking around on the hot concrete just to find an area to take him. We decided to not even use the facilities as we had our own in our RV. We just left & tried for the next rest area in hopes of better pet friendly amenities. The view was incredible however! Looking at other reviews now, I wish we would've taken more time to explore the (human) amenities. It looks pretty nice. There was more than ample room for our 5th Wheel & long bed, dually truck totalling 70 feet in length & over 8 & a half feet wide. There was some sort of permanent residence in the area as well. Seemed rather odd as we saw alot of that going through Wyoming though.

Lookouts
I've been wanting to ride up to the Cement Ridge Lookout for the last 3 yrs. I finally got it done on 06/27/24 on an Adventure bike. All but the last 1/4 mile was very doable. That last 1/4 mile was filled with medium sized rocks and holes. The road was dry but would be challenging if it was raining or the road was muddy. I wouldn't drive that in my Chevy Equinox. Only a truck or high clearance 4x4.Once there, the 360° view was absolutely spectacular. Well worth the trip up there. The Forest Service employee, who was on duty in the fire watch tower, took time to answer my questions .

Pretty cool view, I'm sure it is always windy like it was this day. They have a nice little outhouse, which is handy by the time you get there

Breathtaking views of the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming. Several interpretive signs about the tower and surrounding areas.. Picnic tables and restroom are a great feature.

Drove up there in the snow, it was awesome. No one else but us!

Love going up to the lookout in my side-by-side!Sadly you're not able to use the platform to get an even better look at the surrounding area.

Absolutely stunning! You can see forever from here! Extraordinary 360 views of Montana, South Dakota and Wyoming!
Scott E — Google review
Breathtaking view from this operational fire lookout tower! Nice that there's a picnic table for lunch too!

Beautiful lookout. 360 degree views of northern BH area. This one you can do with a street vehicle; just be careful. We did it in an SUV. These fire lookouts throughout the BH are so cool to visit. Most are locked, but you still have a beautiful view.

We rented a Razor for the day at Spearfish Lodge and boy what a fun time. So much to see and fun trails. So peaceful at Cement Ridge!

If you are into adventure riding, and you're doing the South Dakota BDRX, it is a great stop en route .
Paul M — Google review
We stopped at the lookout tower while side by siding. Unfortunately, it was a bit hazy out, so we were not able to see as far as you would on a clear day. My boyfriend ended up leaving his cell phone up there and the friendly lady at the tower kept it safe for us! Thanks again!
Kara A — Google review
Such a beautiful drive. Lots of wildlife and great views. I wouldn't take a car it's a bit rough. Great for jeeps
Paul F — Google review
Great views. Cement Ridge Road getting there was fun on a light weight adventure motorcycle. You'd be fine with a four wheel drive vehicle with reasonable clearance. Don't go that way on a street motorcycle or street car.
Jerry G — Google review
Rough road to the top of the world! When you get near the end of the road, the trees thin out and the views are spectacular. In mid-June, when I was there, the wild flowers were in full bloom...a veritable carpet of color! Your cannot climb the tower, but there is parking and a pit toilet and great views. Totally worth the drive.I would recommend an all-wheel-drive vehicle (mostly for clearance in some stretches of the road) and don't recommend trailers or campers. Also, watch the weather and bail if it turns threatening!
Dragon's B — Google review
We visited here as a destination on our UTV trail ride. As you can imagine, being located on one of the peaks, the view was awesome! 😎 Definitely worth the ride!
Garry B — Google review
Amazing view from the fire lookout tower! Especially loved it with all the fall foliage in the area! Had a nice picnic at the picnic bench by the lookout tower, and really enjoyed it. The gravel road is kinda rough, but we made it uphill easily.
Kankana S — Google review
The views from up here are amazing! We rode an ATV here and you can see for miles.
Ethan B — Google review
Great views and a fairly easy ride up from the south, the north has a tougher climb up, we've been there 3 years in a row, always a good ride
Aaron O — Google review
Road up is technical, need to walk or have a higher clearance 4x4 vehicle.

We were happy to make this stop from Deadwood on our way to Devils tower. We were not aware of the history here it's a small location but awesome to see the gentleman that gave us a tour is the owner he has a lot of history here small museum and we were able to enter the area's of the actual diggs for bison fossils. Amazing stories here. To get to the fossil u have to be able to walk down to the location just an ( fyi ) in case of mobility difficulties .

This site is one of the possible many areas where native people would use to hunt for Buffalo and possibly other large animals. Very unique site. Lots of information is posted all around this site. It's on the north side of I-90, right if the frontage road.
Slim S — Google review
Excellent tour of the fascinating site of how the plains Indians drove the Buffalo between 1550-1800 into this sinkhole. The layers of the well preserved bones and artifacts is incredible. If you are close and have never seen an actual archaeological dig you must stop. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. Very friendly and professional. Very surprising , educational and an excellent value.
John L — Google review
What a wonderful stop! The guided tour was so informative. Izzy was the perfect host and not only taught us so much, but answered all our questions. Don't pass this place, stop in!

Interesting place to visit just off the beaten path of interstate 90 Some skulls dating back to the year 1500 😳
Waylon R — Google review
Interesting place definitely worth stopping for. Natives used to herd buffaloes over cliffs and once the buffaloes fell and died, it was ...harvest time. According to the guides, only a very small percentage of the fallen buffaloes could be processed into pemmican as it took a long time to dress each animal with the rudimentary tools they had. After 5 days, the stench became such that the tribe had to leave the area.
Rolf S — Google review
What a fantastic experience! We went with our son and initially thought it was just a sinkhole in the ground, but it was so much more. We had a personal tour from Ted Vore, whose family owned the land and who helped to set up the nonprofit foundation to preserve the buffalo jump. There is a tipi full of interpretive displays, including the tribal history of the region and samples of buffalo bones and hide and the history of the site. Then you go down into the sinkhole into the interpretive building and wow, it was really impressive! It showed the archaeological dig done in the 1970s, where you could see the layers of bone. Yes not only showed us the different types of bones but weapons and tools used by native Americans to process them. There were also examples of a Lakota tipi, various other animals skulls, and a fun matching game for the kids on how parts of the buffalo were used. When we went back up, he had a sand box full of arrow heads for the kids to search for and keep and let them throw atlatls at a wooden buffalo as the native Americans would have. Ted was super knowledgeable, passionate, and friendly. We are definitely glad we visited and would recommend it for sure!
Jennifer C — Google review
Do NOT miss this. Amazing information and walk through. Great presentation. Blows you away!
Dennis L — Google review
Well worth the price. Nice facilities and knowledgeable staff. We ended the tour by trying out an atlatl, which is a Native American spear throwing device.
Jackson C — Google review
Loved it! Looks like an unassuming building and tourist tipee. Get the tour! Our guide so informative on the sinkhole, digs and native American culture. It's not very often that you get told that you can touch stuff in the exhibit. Great for families. Worth the price.
Kathy B — Google review
We arrived at 5:30 p.m. and they close at 6. The tour is about 45 min. Do plan to take this piece of history in. There wasn't time for our tour, but we viewed the cliff native Americans ran the buffalo off to butcher to survive. There is lots of artifacts in the building and archeological dig showing buffalo bones intact. It's a suggested $10 donation for the upkeep.
Jamie W — Google review
They offer different tour options, from self-guided to guided. The guided is $9/person and well worth it. Our guide was a local, history majoring student from the university and did a great job with the tour. The tour includes three parts. First, you look at the hole from above and learn about the technique. Next, you go into the tipi museum to see maps and learn more about the tribes and the process. Finally, you head down to the dig site, which was my favorite part. Here you see lots of the bones and other artifacts, as well as learn more about how all the things the bison were used for. This place was definitely worth the nine dollars and was an interesting leg stretch during a long car trip. The whole guided tour takes 30-45 minutes depending on how many questions you ask. Beware: going to the bottom of the sink hole must be done by foot. There is a paved trail going down, but it is steep and I imagine it would be quite difficult to get a wheelchair up and down it safely.
Lindsay S — Google review
Decent place to visit and definitely worth checking out if you traveling as it's right off the interstate. College student employees in the summer can work on their people/communications skills, but I understand they dont talk with their mouth that often as they would rather text.
Ryan J — Google review
Worth a short stop. People are very nice. Very informative displays. A neat bit of history.
Timothy C — Google review
One of our most favorite visits during our time in South Dakota. Interesting, educational, informative, well worth the time. Makes you realize how resourceful and ingenious the Native Americans were in the way they prepared, hunted, and used every part of the buffalo (except for the atlas bone, you'll hear about that if you take the tour). Also very neat about how the cross-bred dogs and wolves and made them dependant on them. VERY worth taking the time for a visit!!!!

It’s not your typical general store, it’s the center of this tiny 30-acre town with population 15.It’s on our way from Rapid City to Devils Tower. We spent about 30 mins to walk through the total 2 floors. Lovely and Interesting!!

Can't believe anyone would write a bad review of this place. Could be them! Staff was super helpful. Place is so neat. Take the time to go upstairs and see everything they have to offer. The bar is the coolest thing about the whole deal. Super neat and just one of those places you will remember about your trip.

I recently used the restroom in the old general store in this historic town. The bathroom was clean and fit the historic theme perfectly, with lots of signage explaining proper use. The window AC kept the space cool and free of humidity. However, the toilet bowl filled slowly, and the sink water was non-potable. The lighting was a bit dim, and most walls were OSB board, which, though fitting for the location, might not appeal to everyone. Despite these minor issues, the bathroom’s cleanliness and thematic consistency made it a unique and memorable experience. The atmosphere of this location overall was great, and usually I do not consider more than the bathroom in my reviews, but for this instance, I need to give a 4 star.

Beautiful little store, total tourist trap, VERY expensive, $20 pint of honey, $17 jerky ...

A neat little mom & pop type store that has a bit of everything, including locally sourced items. There is also an antiques area on the second floor. The cashier was very nice and offered advice on nearby places to visit. The store, from what I gathered, is approximately 130 years old and is one of five such stores left in Wyoming. It's a nice stop on your way to or from Devils Tower.

We had an awful experience here yesterday. Unless you are a Trump Republican, steer clear of this place. Trent Tope, the store's owner who was working behind the counter, asked us where we come from. We told him that we were from New York City. He said, "I'm sorry." He wasn't joking. To lighten things up, we told him we liked to listen to Wyoming Public radio (which we do for the music). He then ranted about how public radio was too liberal and all it reported about was "transgender this and transgender that, transgender Gaza" and on and on. Not wanting a confrontation, we did not reply. We had been charmed by the store in the first instance; but our experience was ruined as the store's owner turned it into yet another fraught instance of the corrosive effect of the divisiveness that marks our society today. Trent should have simply welcomed us to the store and left the politics out of it.

Oh my gosh! We found this little gem when we got lost today while riding our touring motorcycles. You feel right at home from the minute you walk up on the porch! Everyone is friendly and the appetizers were great. There is an added extra next door, The Happy Dog Cafe for ice cream and gifts. If we make it back to SD this will be a must on our list to stop at again! 😁 (It sits right along side the road, you cannot miss it.)

Moonshine Gulch Saloon is a great destination to stop for lunch or just enjoy the atmosphere! We stopped in at Moonshine Gulch Saloon while out trail riding. It's an enjoyable old saloon worth stopping at. There's plenty to look at on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. Rochford a small town in the black hills with a general store and the Moonshine Gulch saloon In this place has lots of character with country charm. The food has the upmost goodness. I was planning to ask for dessert but the place filled up and more folks waiting outside the Mooshine, thought it be polite to give up my seat for the next person that is hungry also. The Lady's up front where so kind thank you and big thanks to the cook in the back end.

Booming tourist joint along the Michelson Trail but dominated by ATV folks. NOT a table service place - get in line to order and then find a table. Food was OK but nothing to get excited about. Oh - and it's about the only place around for many miles. That said, beer was cold and the fries hot, so all was good enough.

What an AWESOME place lost in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Owner Betsy and her son Dan are so great to talk to. They make you feel like you've always known them and you belong in this little saloon. Good burgers and hot dogs, and their fries are the best. Hand cut and perfect. Cheap beers and you can buy 6 packs to go as well. I'll definitely be coming back here the next time I'm in SD.

This place is buried in the heart of history and has its own historical charm. The building being over 100 years old is a character itself. The food is a typical burger joint, but it's pretty good at that. Perfect lunch destination on a slow sight filled drive between Mount Rushmore and Deadwood. Just be prepared to wait if you are on a busy tourist day. This place fills up quick and stays that way.

The D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery & Archives, nestled in Spearfish, South Dakota, is a beloved family destination offering an array of activities. Visitors can enjoy feeding the fish and ducks while exploring the hatchery's museum and old train car used for fish transportation. The beautiful surroundings also provide opportunities for hiking and even hosting outdoor events like weddings in the rose garden. Really amazing park with lots of local history. A must see if you're in Spearfish and have an interest in conservation. It's also a great place to bring children, as there is a pool where they can feed and view trout.

This was a beautiful end to our vacation. The staff are very nice and helpful, my son dropped his sunnies into one of the baby ponds and they helped us get them out without any issues. We were lucky enough to be there during feeding time. That’s fun to see.

An amazing piece of U.S. history. There is no fee to enter. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. Highly recommend spending an hour or so to visit the historic buildings, learn about how trout were introduced into South Dakota and other states in the late 1800s. Kids will get a kick out of feeding the fish.

The Federal hatchery is located near downtown Spearfish. Feed huge Rainbow, Brown, or Cutthroat trout (bags of feed 1-5 dollars) and see them in a below ground window that shows a side view of the pond. There is also a historic train that delivered fishes to different location, an ice house with fish mounts, and a museum (temporarily closed as of 6/7/2024. There are restrooms and a gift shop. Make sure to check out the trails which lead to nice views. The hatchery is located near a park with bike rentals and a local campground (RV hookups available).

Enjoyed a brief stop here while crossing the state. I was disappointed that all of the scientific and historical exhibits had closed for the year just days ago. Enjoyed seeing the fish from the glass-walled area of one of the ponds, as well as a couple species of ducks above. The adjacent recreation areas are a nice asset, too.

Staff bordered on apathetic and weren't very engaging.Rooms were a little dated, trying to get luggage trolley over the back door sill was nearly impossible and the two doors leading to the parking lot were so heavy it took both of us pushing to get them opened. The views are stunning and we saw lots of wildlife during our stay as well as several doable hikes to see the waterfalls near the lodge.Would recommend.

Spearfish Canyon is a beautiful drive. Make sure you save enough time for stopping for pictures. It seems to me that the canyon walls on the north end of the trail are a bit more beautiful, though the entire trail is awesome.

We went on a Beautiful & Scenic Drive Through Spearfish Canyon today ,It is Just Breathtaking ! So much to See ! Highly Recommend this Drive ,

Beautiful drive w place to stop. Water runs mainly on the left side (if coming from Spearfish). If first time nice to go both directions so the driver can see it all easier. I like looking out through the sun/moon roof. Great for nature lovers. Dog friendly though not everything is grassy (dirt/mud when you get out) - bring a towel or wipes if you want to keep them clean.

I like walkable places. Spearfish strikes me as a gorgeous place that could have become too rich and successful to accommodate a traveler like me who has not very much money to spend. This feels to me like a good place for walking around. Or riding your bicycle. Or driving along the creek through the canyon. So if you've only got an hour or two (or a day or a week) to visit the Black Hills of South Dakota, you might consider Spearfish as a destination.

Really enjoyed seeing the many, very large trout swimming in the ponds in the connected hatchery. There is an underwater window, but needed to be cleaned to see clearly. The ponds with the fries are also interesting, but the rail car and boat were spectacular exhibits. Pretty, quiet, with plenty of shade.

Dry camped in an RV at a shoulder up there next to the river. It was a wonderful experience. The ground was nice and level and no one bothered us at all. So grateful as we were so tired and needed somewhere to rest.

The Adams Museum houses an immense collection of objects relating to the history of the Black Hills, including memorabilia from Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. The museum is said to be the oldest in the region and was founded by W.E. Adams, who was formerly mayor of Deadwood.
Absolutely loved this museum!!! You could easily spend all day here taking in all the exhibits and information! An awesome place to learn about the history of Deadwood.

A true landmark in a city full of Old West legends! Hosted by the incredibly beautiful & lovely Rose the museum combines the charms of a small town history legend coupled to the stories of the region that give us the myth and the truth of this legendary town. Whether you want the low down on potato Creek Johnny and his legendary nugget or view Native American artifacts you're sure to find many treasures besides Rose's well informed tutelage that led our group's grasp of the intuitive & straight forward manner of its history lessons.

Husband and child #3 went snowmobiling for the day and we found this little treasure of a museum. I wouldn’t drive an hour JUST to see it, but I would absolutely stop if you have time to lolligag around. It has many little interactive exhibits for the kids and at $9 for all of us total, it was a great way to spend 1.5 hours!

The receptionist was super kind and for a free attraction it's a must see. It is operated on donations and it was well worth the five dollars each my friend and I donated. There are three stories of exhibits with activities for everyone from young kids to adults.

Fun museum experience. So many unique exhibits. The kids had a great time.

Love the history. Lots of information. I love that, though the '76 Museum touches on some of the Adams Museum information, it doesn't stomp all over it. You don't feel like you wasted your money to get the same info. All of Deadwood would do well to incorporate that philosophy. For example, one place focus on Calamity Jane, one focus on Tootsie, one on Wild Bill, one on Sol Star, etc. There are so many colorful characters in Deadwood's history, each hotel could have a different museum instead of a casino that 1 person sits in.

Lots of Deadwood history is saved here. There are relics from early to modern Deadwood along with some good background on famous figures. I'm not sure why Potato Creek Johnny isn't more well known. His story needs to be heard!

The Adams Museum is well worth the suggested donation of $5! You can easily spend 2 days here reading and seeing everything and still not seeing everything they have! They have everything thing from local flora and birds, gems, dinosaur remains, American Indian artifacts, and artifacts from Wild Bill and Potato Creek Johnny. There’s also interactive things that kids and adults alike would enjoy.

GO HERE. Hands down the best local history museum we’ve been to in the US. So good for kids! Lots of interactive exhibitions. Our 5 and 2 yo didn’t want to leave! I feel like I learned so much myself. Just brilliant curation, so thoughtful and fascinating. It’s only $5 suggested donation and I honestly think they should double this or just charge entry at more than this as it is SO WORTH IT. The man working there was lovely, very kind and helpful. Cannot recommend enough! I wish we’d had longer in town because I wanted to go back!

A must-see family-friendly attraction in historic Deadwood! Feel like you're right there in the thick of the action as you walk back in time inside the museum's three full floors. Your kids won't just read about history, they'll experience it! With multiple interactive exhibits (including a one-room schoolhouse classroom and kinetic sand), this is an excellent educational and fun place for the whole family. The museum at the Adams home in Deadwood displays some of the original furnishings and personal items from Deadwood's pioneer days. This house served as a turning point for the town, whose roots were once in the gold mining industry.
Such a cool stop. It wasn't a super long tour, but it was very informative. I do just wish that we got more time in each room. It was a large group of about 20 people and basically as soon as our guide was finished talking we had to go to the next room. Would have loved just a few more moments to look at everything.

Very cool museum. The tour guides provide lots of information, but they do have strict rules no touching anything, no standing on the antique rugs, no standing on the tile by the fireplace, no using flash, and no sitting on the furniture. They are very strict about these rules and will not hesitate to yell at you. You must stay with your tour group and keep moving. Other than that our guide shared lots of information, answered every question, and was very detailed. The house was incredible. I highly recommend the Adams House—just follow the rules, as you should always do anyway.

If you're in Deadwood, I highly recommend visiting the Adams House. The decor was stunning and home has been well-preserved for the era. We arrived about 1045am just in time to take a guided 40 min tour of the home at 11am. There were about a dozen people in our tour which was comfortable but not crowded. You may take pics (no flash) along the way. If you only have a small amount of time in town, this home is definitely worth the stop.

The home itself was magnificent from the furniture to the architecture. The guide was very kind and knew so much of not just the house's history but the town's. There is a reason the Adams family was such a prominent family in Deadwood, as they're responsible for the Adams museum that showcases the history of the town and the rest of the black Hills.

Mount Moriah Cemetery is a historic cemetery in Deadwood Gulch that holds the graves of prominent figures from the Old West. It is open to the public for a small fee, and includes names such as Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane.
We ended our trip to Deadwood coming here to pay respect to all of the people that have passed. The walk up to Seth and Martha's burial is well worth it. Very peaceful.
Sarah K — Google review
Beautiful and austere cemetery steeped in Wild West history. Admission price is a pittance for what can be seen. The walk through the cemetery proper is quite easy, though it’s a good trek up to see Seth.
Sarah H — Google review
The cemetery was WAY bigger than I expected! Be prepared for a lot of uphill hiking (especially if you plan on going to Seth Bullock's grave). You definitely could spend many hours here if you want to explore the whole thing. Great overlook of the city of Deadwood and the gulch.
Nikita G — Google review
Get a slice of the real American west when you visit Mt Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood. Wild Bill, Calamity Jane and Potato Creek Johnny are all there. Also the lawman Seth Bullock. He was one of the main characters, played by Timothy Olyphant, in the Deadwood series and Deadwood movie on Max.
Todd C — Google review
Nice stop and a good 1 mile hike from Deadwood to the lookout to Bullock’s grave. $2 / adult and kids are free.
Bryan H — Google review
No fee to enter during off-season! I went at the beginning of November. It was cool to walk around and see the history. Of course, you have to check out the few famous Graves as well. There's a hike up a steep hill if you want to see Seth's grave. There were a lot of deer, turkey, chipmunks, and squirrels throughout at 9 am. I don't know anything about Wild Bill, but I enjoy cemeteries, and it was nice to go for a walk here. I surprisingly spent about 1.5 hours here. It's not good for handicapped as it's a lot of hills. Not walker/wheelchair friendly. I'm curious what the stack of rocks up by Seth's grave is for. Also, I didn't like that people were placing rocks all over the headstones. Makes the place look very messy.
Kae S — Google review
What a great place for history. The story of the lives of the people buried in this cemetery is the stuff that legends are made of and epic stories are written about and movie are created for. Wander through and let the spirits tell the tails of the days gone by.

We are visiting from out of state, and we love touring old cemeteries. We, as always, have our dog. This is not a normal cemetery and requires tickets. But they are only $2. When we got to the booth, the sign said no dogs. We have never encountered this before and asked how strict the rule was. We were told we could bring her in as long as we carried her. I said that would work and ran my bag back to the car so I had both hands free. We paid and started towards the gate, and the same woman called out and said, "You can't bring that dog." I said you just said we could if I carried her, and she said no, rules are rules. I responded I understood, but why say we could go in and then as soon as she had our money, she said no. She offered to take our dog which was not going to happen, then suggested we tie her to a post in the parking lot, also not happening, or leave her in the car on an 80 degree day while we took the tour. When I told her none of that was acceptable, she started to call someone on her cellphone ranting loudly to herself about people breaking the rules. At this point, we demanded our money back, which in her only defense she did agree to do. While it is extremely odd to have a no dog rule at a cemetery that has large paved path through it, we tried to adhere to the rule she set for us. She changed the rule, badgered us, and made suggestions that were entirely devoid of any empathy towards living beings. This woman should not be allowed a public interfacing job.
Sarah S — Google review
The history is interesting. Don't pass it up but pay close attention to the signs because I got lost and had to turn around. Its an uphill climb in your car right thought a neighborhood so don't be so surprised when you have to go past several house. Don't just go to see wild bill and Calamity Jane look at all the other graves to take a couple of rocks or buttons to put on some of the graves to show respect. It was a breathtaking (literally) cemetery. Its uphill most of it but when you leave you get to walk downhill so it works out. There is a small fee for the map which isnt bad they had a small visitors center which had bathrooms and parking.
Sd S — Google review
While visiting Deadwood you must visit Mount Moriah Cemetery where Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok are buried. I would not suggest trying to walk to the cemetery from Historic Old Town. The cemetery is a the top of a very steep hill overlooking the town. One of the people at the visitor’s center told me that even the people in the very best condition have found it extremely difficult. So, cemetery visitors should drive up the steep curvy road to the small park lot and visitors center. Parking is very limited but once you find a parking spot, make your way to the small visitors center where I paid the $2.00 fee for a map to use for the self-guided tour. You must walk when touring the cemetery and it is rather hilly, but the Graves of Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok are just a short walk from the entrance gate. If you have the time, use the map from the visitors center to explore some of the other notable graves in this cemetery including Seth Bullock who was sheriff of Deadwood. Also, most people just come to visit the graves of Calamity Jane and Wild Bill, but if you continue a little farther toward the flagpole you come to a very nice veterans memorial and an overlook that give you a very nice view of the Town of Deadwood below. All total I spent about 90-minutes walking around the cemetery. I was able to visit many of the graves on the map. If you just want to visit Calamity Jane and Wild Bill’s grave, you can certainly accomplish this in as little as 30-minutes. But there is so much history here you should probably allow at least an hour to see some of the other sites here. A visit to Mount Moriah Cemetery is a must for anyone coming to Deadwood and the $2.00 fee and map are well worth it.
Garry T — Google review
Great views over the townThey do give you pamphlets ($2 entry) but thought there would be more information boards regarding the lives of Wild Bill and Calamity Jane

Another checkmark on the bucket list. Was sprinkling a bit 5/26/24. Perfect day to pay tribute to a some legends of the American West.
Mike D — Google review
Very cool place to visit. You can walk it or they have a Deadwood tour bus that goes through it. It is a lot of walking but not bad, my 84 year old grandma walked it with me and their are benches to rest at.
Jenna G — Google review
This cemetery holds a lot of the history for Deadwood. Most people go just to see where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are buried, but there’s so much more then that. It explains how scarlet fever, smallpox, and diphtheria came through the town and killed a lot of children. They also explain about the Chinese buried there. Inside the little gift shop is more history of the cemetery.
Michele S — Google review
It's a beautiful cemetery full of history. $2/person. There are walkways for all to access the main cemetery but to get to the Bullock grave is a .15 mile steep walk up the side of the Mt. Beautiful views of Deadwood from above.
Heather B — Google review
Nicely kept cemetery. Seth Bullock is a little bit of a hike 🤣 I think it’s worth it though. Peaceful.
Katie R — Google review
Came here to see Wild Bill & Calamity Jane’s graves. It’s well maintained and the views of the city are nice so we heard. (Didn’t hike all the way up) It’s $2 to get in and it’s a short hike (maybe 5 mins) to their stones.
Ty D — Google review
Word to the wise, do not ever attempt to walk from where Wild Bill was shot in downtown to cemetery. Yes, granted it's only 3/4th of a mile but what Google maps do NOT tell you that there's endless stairways and inclines of streets to get here. We were huffing and puffing and to top it off, you still gotta climb inclined walkways to Wild Bill's burial. Aside from that, we truly enjoyed the experience of it and you can see the overview town of Deadwood at top of cemetery.
Deborah H — Google review
It costs $2 a person to enter. There are a few main attraction celebrity gravesites. It is quite steep hiking up and down the cemetary as it is indeed on the side of a mountain. The trail to Seth Bullock's grave will lead you all the way to the top. I definitely recommend going all the way up as the scenery from the top overlooking Deadwood is beautiful.

Historic Walking Areas
Deadwood is a lively old town with a history stretching back to the early 1800s. The architecture and layout of the historic district are reminiscent of Wild West movie sets, complete with wide streets lined with shops and restaurants. The fun atmosphere and interesting history make it an unforgettable destination for visitors.
We visited Deadwood for one day whilst we were on vacation in SD. It's an old town with a mixture of historical places, museums, shops (lots of tacky souvenir shops), saloons, gambling, restaurants and bars. The town looked quite deserted in the main area on Thursday morning. However worth a visit. A couple of hours will suffice to get a good look round. Parking is limited in the town center.
Andy N — Google review
It was a bit difficult finding parking in Deadwood on our first visit. One public parking said closed, but it had cars in it, some didn’t seem to say anything and we weren’t sure where we’d have dinner. We ended up parking further away than we wanted, but it was a public parking where we could figure out how to pay for the parking. We went into one of the first casino/hotels that we found and were going to have dinner there, but they couldn’t get us in until 9 pm (2 hours later) and the same with the buffet. In spectacular news, we got reservations at Snitches on OpenTable! We walked to Tin Lizzie’s, had an amazing meal, and rolled ourselves back to our car. Snitches is our new high expectations for what a steak should be and the price was awesome. We probably should have taken the $1/person shuttle to Tin Lizzie’s, but it was a good walk and we got to play tourist a little. There were many Pokemon Go stops/gyms along the main drag.

I'm truly invested in Deadwood's success and believe in its potential to captivate visitors from all walks of life.

A Casino Town with a splash of history. Not sure I would bring young children here. Heavy drinking, gambling in your face at every storefront. Many men sans wives playing biker boys. Just saying...We did enjoy our stay, but recommend side trips to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial which were an easy drive from our hotel. One day would have been enough for us.

Loved Deadwood! So much history and so many things to see. We stayed there for a weekend the end of April and it was not enough time to even begin to do everything I'd like to do. It's definitely one of those towns that you could come back to many times and still not see everything. Quaint, charming and full of history. Friendly people, great vibes! PS - The last weekend in April was a great time to go because they had lower pre-season rates on hotels and the weather was beautiful. There's a lot more activity in the summer with lots of shows in the streets etc but for a 1st time visit, April was a wonderful time to go.

This is a quaint little museum that has worked very hard to curate an experience of the local life and champions. It may be small but the number of historical items is HUGE. They are also adding a new building which will be interesting. There is also a historical cabin by the museum that hold interesting items and it is the site to display the Geographic Center of the Nation Monument. (The actual center is about 40 miles away on private property). Amazing there is no cost for this museum. But that leaves it open for you to leave a great donation in the tip box for a great experience.
Lucinda B — Google review
If you happen to be in the geographical center of the nation, it’s worth at least a five minute stop to check out the stone monument, and get a picture or two. If you have more time, (and come when it’s open) take a bit to check out the inside museum area. You can walk through the whole thing in 10 minutes, or slowly take in the exhibits and read about the remarkable people of this area. You’ll also find the largest collection of quality brochures and booklets to help you choose what to explore next, and smart people who can also serve as a great resource to making sure you don’t miss anything.

This is the Geo center of the nation. They are open while under construction. The museum is full of interesting exhibits. The bathroom was clean as was the RV dump. They appreciate donations, but there is no entrance fee.

A free museum at (one of) the geographic centers of the country. The monument itself is gorgeous. And this museum is really cool! A wide variety of interesting things, well grouped and well displayed with lots of information. Definitely worth seeing :-).

Did not get to enter the museum as it was closed. The granite tributes to Korean and Vietnam War veterans and casualties are reminders of our country's finest. The granite marker of the Geographic Center of the United States is a beautiful tribute to Belle Fourche, but the true center is a 20-mile drive away.

Awesome history. It’s worth the trip to go see it if you’re close by.

The center of the nation compass rose was beautiful. It's located just down the hill, from the museum.

The monument of the Geo center of the US. Sort of a farce as the actual place is north of there in a hayfield.

Located in the geological center of the United States. Very very cool museum too. Fascinating and full of information. Admission is free. And the staff was super helpful at recommending other interesting nearby attractions. You may not be the center of the universe but you'll be the center of the continental United States here.Absolutely worth a visit.

We enjoy viewing the nice museum collection representing so much of times past. And the marker designating it as the Center of the Nation in the park out back is fabulous. We look forward to seeing this place again after their new renovations.

This place has such a huge amount of local regional history inside, they are always changing up the exhibits and there is new things to see each time. So much of their donations of old cool stuff is from descendants of early local ranchers and farmers. Everything is just so cool, they have so much that their place is just full to bursting. Funds raised from donations and events is supporting a new addition to the building which will make room for more displays and performances. The museum is supported by yearly memberships and donations from the surrounding communities. They hold a Saturday brunch for members and give little history presentations, this is where the networking happens among the donors. Because belle fourche is a small town, some of the entertainment performances held at the museum are the only thing to do on a weekend if your bored and don’t want to drive out of town.

Had a great pit stop to see this place. It has a cool museum inside. I’m not always that keen on museums but this one was just the right size. Friendly staff and historical cabin outside, too. Nice little gift shop. Monument was so cool thinking of where you are standing in relation to the rest of the country. All the flags were represented as well. Very clean bathrooms, too. Best of all it’s free, but donations are accepted.

Nice place. I didn't see any food, didn't look too hard though. Anyways, I was severely disappointed by how they treated the Utah flag, but I'm not too worked up about it. Definitely check this place out if you happen to be in the middle of nowhere in Belle Fourche!

We stopped here on 9/16 while traveling home after a bicycle trip. While the visitor center and museum weren't open when we stopped, this is a cool little geographical marker. It should be noted this marks the center of all 50 states as there's another marker for the center of the contiguous 48 states in Kansas, I think. In any event, this is worth the stop as there is also a marker for each state at the site. Fun little facts are...fun!

This monument is very well designed and very pretty! I have also seen the geographic center of North America in North Dakota. Clean restrooms and an added bonus of a very nice museum :-).

Can you imagine being in the geographic center of the USA in South Dakota?? Amazing! It’s a very nice place to stop! Well maintained and beautifully landscaped! They also include a Vietnam War Memorial, The Great Western Trail marker and a cabin that was built in 1876 by Buckskin Jonny! Well worth a visit!

Fun place to learn history & be in the center. It's cool to these touristy things. We learned a lot about SD and got to stand in the center of North America 🌎

Pretty cool place and so peaceful in the evening. The trail along the river was a good walk. And the monument itself is beautiful! The cabin sitting there is a piece of history. So happy i got the chance to visit this in person!

A nice place to stop. Has memorials to Vietnam, Korea, and First and Second World War veterans too. Right off highway 85. Signposted really well in advance and easy to find

This is a neat monument in Belle Fourche to designate the geographic center of the entire United States. The actual center is nearby on private land, but I'm glad they have this marker to take pictures at.They've got all the state flags around too as well as a park for relaxing and picnic tables. Would definitely recommend to stop by especially since it's always open and free.

So excited to visit. It truly is the geographic center of the nation, by which I mean all 50 states. If you want the center of the 48, then that’s someplace else. Sunny day, clean facilities & a water filling station. The staff we knowledgeable & pointed out that it’s the center of the 50 states, & that the center of the 48 is somewhere else. Plenty of parking, for when we arrived, but if it’s busier, parking may be a struggle.

Easy enough to find, parking is free. You walk down some stairs, there is a large Stone looks like a compass that claims that it is the center of the nation. There is a trail of 50 state flags and an information black about each state

Wonderful place in Belle Fourche SD. Was there for another event but went thru a log cabin, saw inside an old wagon and museum and stood at the Geographical center of the US! Amazing venue with each state's flag and info.

This is a really unique place to visit with a lot of history to explore. The monument is close to Sturgis and is an easy detour if riding out to Devils Tower.

Interesting stop. We have previously been to the center of the lower 48 in Kansas so we figured we needed to stop at the true center of all 50 states. There is a beautiful monument, historic cabin and museum. If you’re nearby it’s worth a visit.

I really don’t understand how this is the center when it’s so far north. It is a fun spunky spot, a little out of the way. The grounds are clean and family oriented.
