Recently I attended the 9th World Congress on Conservation Agriculture with the Restore Africa team, this year held in our beautiful Cape Town. After working in the field of regenerative agriculture for nearly 5 years, this event confirmed everything we have been working towards. Learning about the research and in-field successes, strengthened our narrative and motivation. The most inspiring for me was hearing from the farmers. The challenges they faced, but also the incredible successes they are having. They are more climate resilient, erosion has become a forgotten nightmare, producing food with drastically reduced chemical inputs, sequestering carbon in the soil and significantly increasing nutrient density in food without all the modern day "nasties". I was so inspired that I am considering farming myself - maybe in future. However, for now, I will continue to focus all my attention and efforts at Restore Africa and acquiring the funding and support that regenerative agriculture so desperately needs in SA.Thank you to all involved for making this conference a huge success, in particular the Western Cape Department of Agriculture and Landbouweekblad. Thank you for spearheading conservation and regenerative agriculture in SA. Participating in the Nation in conversation / Nasie in gesprek discussions last week at NAMPO was an honour. It is important to bring a weather and climate perspective to these discussions, not to be a "doom prophet", but to be able to have open and realistic discussions about what the trends are, what that means and, most importantly, starting the conversation about how we go forward and mitigate where we can and adapt where we need to. Hearing from the other panelists about the endurance, dedication and innovation of farmers in difficult circ*mstances, I was filled with renewed hope in the resilience of our farmers. There is so much that can and is already being done! In a weather dependent sector, such as agriculture, the time is now for converting conversations into action plans.#nasieingesprek #nationinconversation #nampo2024 #climate #weather #knowthefacts #futureproof #futurethinking #climatechange #climateperspective #farmers #agriculture #regenerativeagriculture #restoreafrica

I am honoured to be a part of the opening discussion of "Nasie in gesprek" / Nation in conversation at NAMPO 2024. I will be contributing a climate perspective to the discussions around increasing adaptation and resilience in agriculture. Although we are subject to weather conditions, we control what happens on-farm, and that determines climate resilience and adaptability. Healthy soils are climate resilient soils.#nasieingesprek #nampo #nationinconversation #climateperspective #climatechange #climatecycles #adaptation #mitigation #restoreafrica #Meteorologist #knowthefacts #weather #climate #regenerativeagriculture

The big weather news of the week was Tropical Storm Filipo making landfall along the Mozambique coastline on 12 March 2024 (Imagery: EUMETSAT). These storms lose strength and intensity when they move overland, but also as they move southwards, away from the warm tropical ocean water. Warm oceans are the fuel to these systems and in the case of tropical cyclones/hurricanes/typhoons the global warming trend has HUGE destructive repercussions. A degree or 2, definitely matters!(Imagery: EUMETSAT)#Meteorologist #weather #climate #tropicalstorm #filipo #Mozambique #cycloneseason #climatechange #globalwarming

What a pleasure to have Nic van Schalkwyk as my guest on Ontbytsake. We discussed the financial aspect of converting to conservation and regenerative agriculture. Still wondering whether it is a good idea to make the move? This should convince you that the investment in your farm is definitely worth it. C'mon, get on the green line!#restoreafrica #regenerativeagriculture #conservationagriculture #sustainableagriculture #sustainability #agriculture #futurethinking #futureproof #knowthefacts #Ontbytsake #landbousake https://lnkd.in/dfpgFWG5

Farming transition from one generation to the next is only possible if there is something left to pass on. Invest in soil and ecosystem regeneration on your farm and leave a sustainable farming legacy behind.#regenerativeagriculture #sustainable #farming #futurethinking #futureproof #successionplanning
