History

Founded as Executive Leasing Company in 1957 by Jack Taylor, and headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, the company started with just seven cars and shortly expanded to provide rental cars for customers while their own vehicles were at the shop. In 1969, the company rebranded as Enterprise to pay homage to the aircraft carrier Taylor served in during World War II, while continuing to expand beyond St. Louis.

By 1993, when Enterprise first went international, the company had a fleet of 200,000 rental vehicles available at 1,500 locations, before it opened its first offices in Canada and Europe, shortly followed by the first airport location in Denver.

Today, Enterprise has more than 7,600 branches in over 85 countries where you can rent a car to drive off into the sunset of your next adventure.

How To Earn Enterprise Plus Points

Every qualified dollar you spend on car rentals will earn points—and qualified dollars are defined as base rate, paid upgrades and any add-ons (like GPS and car racks) and excludes any credits or discounts, taxes and surcharges, vehicle license fees, airport related fees, fuel purchase options and other charges.

It’s worth noting that if you rent a car with National Car Rental and enter your Enterprise Plus number on the reservation, your qualified dollars will also be eligible to earn points with the Enterprise Plus program. Rentals with National using your Free Rental Days will also count towards your qualified rental days provided the overall duration of the rental includes at least one paid day.

Elite members earn a minimum of 1 point per dollar spent on car rentals and have the chance to earn bonus points the higher up the loyalty tiers they graduate:

Elite Status

With Enterprise Plus, you will move higher up the membership tiers within the program based on either the amount of rentals you book with them or the cumulative rental days. Here are the benefits and earnings rates that you get with each tier.

  • Plus: You get here just by signing up, and there is no minimum required amount of rentals. Points are earned at a rate of 1 point per qualified dollar spent on rentals.
  • Silver: You will need at least six rentals to reach the Silver level, and you’ll get one free one car class upgrade certificate every calendar year. Members at the Silver level will earn 10% bonus points on each qualified dollar spent on rentals with Enterprise.
  • Gold: Reaching this level requires a minimum of 12 rentals or a sum of 40 total rental days within a calendar year. As a benefit of this tier you will receive two free one car class upgrade certificates every year you remain at this level. Earning at this level jumps up to a 15% bonus on each qualified dollar spent on rentals.
  • Platinum: You’ll need at least 24 rentals or a cumulative 85 rental days within a calendar year to reach this top-tier level. Once you get to this level, you will be rewarded with four one-car class upgrade certificates every year for as long as you retain this elite status. Members at the Platinum level receive a 20% bonus on each qualified dollar spent on car rentals.

Status Matches

Enterprise offers to match your status if you already have elite status with many of its competitors. Head to the Enterprise status match website to find out what programs can be status matched to Enterprise Plus and what it takes to do so.

There are several cards out there that will get you elite status with either Avis or Hertz that you can later status match to Enterprise.

  • The Platinum Card® from American Express: Get Avis Preferred Plus status or President’s Circle status with Hertz just by registering once you get the card (Terms apply, see rates & fees).
  • The Business Platinum Card® from American Express: Get Avis Preferred or President’s Circle status with Hertz just by registering once you get the card (Terms apply, see rates & fees).
  • Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card: Get Avis Preferred Plus or status with Avis or President’s Circle status with Hertz just by registering through your card (rates & fees).
  • United Club℠ Infinite Card, United Club℠ Business card*, United Presidential Plus Card and United Presidential Plus Business Card: Cardholders of these United Airlines credit cards offered through Chase receive Avis President’s Club status.
  • Visa Infinite Cards: As a Visa Infinite cardholder you can enjoy automatic Avis Preferred Plus status with Avis Preferred just by enrolling.
  • World Elite Mastercard: Cardholders enjoy automatic status with Avis President’s Club or Gold Plus President’s Circle with Hertz just by enrolling.

Shopping Portals

There is no Enterprise specific shopping portal to earn extra points through your everyday online purchases. You may still be able to stack your points earning strategy by booking your rentals online through other portals such as Swagbucks, Capital One Shopping or TopCashBack. Earning rates will vary through the year, so make it a point to check whenever you book a rental car reservation to maximize your earnings.

Buying Enterprise Plus Points

Enterprise does not have an option to purchase Enterprise Plus points, so the only way to earn these points is by renting cars.

How To Redeem Enterprise Plus Points

If there’s anything more exciting than earning points with a loyalty program, it has to be using them to get free rentals to enjoy while on vacation. Redeeming Enterprise Plus points is simple: it takes as little as 400 points to redeem for a free day and there are no blackout dates.

Rental Redemptions

The amount of points required for each rental varies substantially based on length of rental and location, but the minimum required for a one-day free rental is 600 points. To find out how many points will be needed for a rental, log in with your Enterprise credentials and search for the desired rental. Once presented with the results, you will have the ability to toggle between ‘Pay in $’ and ‘Pay in Points’ to find out the required number of points for each option shown.

Sweet Spots

Since the Enterprise Plus program is heavily revenue-based, you’re unlikely to find a redemption that provides an unusually higher value than others. The best way to extract more value from the program would probably be to use one of the methods described above to gain elite status as soon as possible so that you can earn more points per dollar spent.

Quirks

Expiration

Enterprise Plus points will not expire as long as you have any qualifying activity in your account every three years. If you don’t earn or redeem points within that time frame, you’ll forfeit your points.

Fees

You won’t be charged fees to be a member of Enterprise Plus, but free rental days only cover the base rate of your free rentals and do not apply to taxes, fees, surcharges and optional products, which are still your responsibility to cover.

Family Pooling

Enterprise allows up to one transfer to or from another Enterprise Plus account per calendar year, up to a maximum of 7,500 points, in increments of 500 points. Once the points are transferred, the operation cannot be reversed. Also, transferred points will expire whenever points in the recipient’s account expire or three months after the transfer, whichever is greater. If the recipient’s account earns points through a qualified rental, the validity of transferred points will be extended another 36 months.

Bottom Line

The Enterprise Plus program is an uncomplicated way to earn rewards while renting cars on your next business or personal trip. Points earned can be redeemed for rental days and prices will vary based on destination and the average rate of your rental. While this means that there isn’t the opportunity for sweet spots or other travel hacking, it does offer a solid way to earn a discount on your next trip.

Upon enrollment, accessible through the Capital One website or mobile app, eligible cardholders will remain at upgraded status level through December 31, 2024. Please note, enrolling through the normal Hertz Gold Plus Rewards enrollment process (e.g. at Hertz.com) will not automatically detect a cardholder as being eligible for the program and cardholders will not be automatically upgraded to the applicable status tier. Additional terms apply.
