Exchange and refund conditions for reservations (1)

The exchange and refund conditions for each reservation differ based on country and carrier.If the reservation has been booked using our self-service Book Reservations tool, a booking fee of €2 per passenger per train reservation is generally not refunded.Additionally, our booking tool relies on 3 different booking systems that we have partnered with, each with their own refund conditions – in most cases, a cancellation charge shall be deducted from the total reservation amount when the customer requests for a refund.

Please check the following terms and conditions carefully to know which refund conditions apply for your particular reservation booking and we hope to have you onboard a Eurail adventure again soon!

Austria

Domestic day trains

  • ÖBB Nightjet
    • All reservations are non-refundable

Domestic night trains

  • ÖBB Nightjet
    • All reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends on the time period between the customer cancelling their reservation and the train’s scheduled departure:
      • If the reservation is cancelled at least 15 days before departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund
      • If the reservation is cancelled between 14 days – 1 day before departure, 50% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €15 per person
      • When the reservation is cancelled the same day as departure or in case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided

International day trains

  • Austria – Italy: EuroCity (EC) and EuroCity Brenner (ECB), ÖBB Nightjet
    • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends on the customer’s reservation cancellation status:
      • If the reservation is cancelled before departure, the customer shall receive the full refund
      • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided.

International night trains

  • ÖBB Nightjet
    • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends on the time period between the customer cancelling their reservation and the train’s scheduled departure:
      • If the reservation is cancelled at least 15 days before departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund
      • If the reservation is cancelled between 14 days – 1 day before departure, 50% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €15 per person
      • When the reservation is cancelled the same day as departure or in case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
  • EuroNight trains
    • Vienna – Berlin (CHOPIN) 40406/40477
      • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the time period between the customer cancelling their reservation and the train’s scheduled departure:
        • If the reservation is cancelled at least 1 day before departure, 20% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €5 per person
        • If the reservation is cancelled the same day as departure, 50% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €5 per person
        • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
  • Vienna – Budapest– Bucharest (DACIA) 346/347
    • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status:
      • If the reservation is cancelled before departure, 10% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €4 per person
      • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
Belgium

International day trains

  • Belgium – Germany: DB, ICE
    • All reservations are non-refundable
  • Belgium – France: SNCF, TGV
    • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status and the reservation issuing system used:
      • Ticket is in French or says it was purchased via SNCF boutique (CIV 1087):
        • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, 10% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €4 per person
        • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
      • Ticket is in English and says it was issued by SNCB (CIV 1088):
        • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund
        • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
        • Reservations are exchangeable once and free of charge before scheduled departure. Please reach out to our Customer Service 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train
  • Eurostar
    • All reservations are non-refundable
    • Customers can check if their reservations may be exchanged in advance on theEurostar websiteby filling out their booking reference and last name.
      • Eurostar Continental (formerly Thalys)
        • All reservations are exchangeable once free of charge up to 7 days before the date of departure. If reservations are exchanged after this, a fee shall be applicable
      • Eurostar London
        • Reservation exchanges are subject to a fee:
          • Minimum 15 EUR per person exchange fee shall be levied for exchanging reservations in Standard class
          • Minimum 20 EUR per person exchange fee shall be levied for exchanging reservations in Standard Premier class
Czech Republic

Domestic day trains

  • CD, SuperCity (SC)
    • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status:
      • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, 10% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or minimum €4 per person
      • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided

International day trains

      • The reservation amount is €10 or ticket says it was purchased via SNCF boutique (CIV 1087):
        • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, 10% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or minimum €4 per person
        • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
      • The reservation amount is €20 or ticket says it was purchased via SNCB:
        • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund
        • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
        • Reservations for domestic TGV day trains are exchangeable once and free of charge before scheduled departure. Please reach out to our Customer Service 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train

International day trains

  • France– Spain, SNCF
    • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status and the reservation issuing system used.
      • Ticket is in French or says it was purchased via SNCF boutique (CIV 1087)
        • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, 10% cancellation charges shall be deducted or minimum €4 per person
        • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
      • Ticket is in English or says it was issued by SNCB (CIV 1088):
        • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund

        • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, 10% cancellation charges shall be deducted or minimum €4 per person

        • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund

  • France– Switzerland, TGV Lyria
    • Reservations qualify for a refund but refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status:
      • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, a cancellation charge of €30 per person shall be deducted
      • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
  • Eurostar
    • All reservations are non-refundable
    • Customers can check if their reservations may be exchanged in advance on the Eurostar website by filling out their booking reference and last name.
      • Eurostar Continental (formerly Thalys)
        • All reservations are exchangeable once free of charge up to 7 days before the date of departure. If reservations are exchanged after this, a fee shall be applicable

    • In case the customer booked a special fare reservation with a One Country Pass valid in Poland, the reservation qualifies for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status:
      • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, 10% cancellation charges shall be deducted or minimum €4 per person
      • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
  • Germany – Italy: EuroCity Brenner (ECB), ÖBB
    • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status:
      • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund
      • In case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
  • Germany – Austria/ Switzerland / Czech Republic / Denmark
    • All reservations are non-refundable

International night trains

        • After the train’s scheduled departure, reservation exchanges can only be done once and are free of charge within 1 hour after departure, only at the departure station indicated on the ticket
      • Change of route:
        • Before the train’s scheduled departure, reservation exchanges are unlimited and free (paying a possible difference in reservation amount)
        • After the train’s scheduled departure, reservation exchanges can only be done once and are free (paying a possible difference in reservation amount) within 1 hour after departure, only at the departure station indicated on the ticket
    • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the customer’s reservation cancellation status:
      • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure and if the reservation amount is higher than €10 per person, then 20% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount
      • In case of no cancellation or if the reservation amount is €10 or less, no refund shall be provided

Domestic night trains

    • All reservations are exchangeable with the following conditions
      • Change of date and/or time:

      • If the reservation is cancelled before scheduled departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund

International day trains

    • Reservations qualify for a refund but the refund amount depends upon the time period between the customer cancelling their reservation and the train’s scheduled departure:
      • If the reservation is cancelled at least 15 days before departure, the customer is entitled to a full refund
      • If the reservation is cancelled between 14 days – 1 day before departure, 50% cancellation charges shall be deducted from the reservation amount or at least €15 per person
      • When the reservation is cancelled the same day as departure or in case of no cancellation, no refund shall be provided
