Tens of thousands of Ontario health care workers are members of OPSEU/SEFPO. They work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and dozens of different community health centres and community health and care organizations. The union's health care workers are in Ambulance (Sector 2), Long-Term Care (Sector 8), Hospital Professionals (Sector 10), Hospital Support (Sector 11), Community Health Care Professionals (Sector 17), Mental Health and Addictions (Sector 18), and Blood Services and Diagnostics (Sector 19)
The Social Services Division was created in 2007. It represents over 20,000 members drawn from five OPSEU/SEFPO sectors: Sector 2 (Developmental Services), Sector 4 (Children’s Aid Societies), Sector 7 (BPS Corrections), Sector 15 (Children’s Treatment) and Sector 5 (Community Agencies). Owing to government amalgamations within the BPS, it was felt important to create and co-ordinate communication and campaigns among these five sectors.
OPSEU/SEFPO represents a large number of members working for a variety of school boards, universities and cultural institutions across the province. The OPSEU/SEFPO members in education are found in two sectors: Boards of Education and Cultural Institutions (Sector 3) and Universities (Sector 9). Members working in the province's public college system are represented by the union's Colleges division.
OPSEU/SEFPO members working for municipalities, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC), the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), and a variety of other public organizations and private corporations are represented by the General sector.
The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) is a Crown corporation of the Ontario government which purchases and retails beverage alcohol through more than 660 retail stores and some 210 agency stores. It is the proven safest, most cost-effective, convenient and socially responsible way to sell alcohol. Net income from LCBO sales goes to the province in the form of an annual dividend to help pay for vital public services, including health care, education and infrastructure.
OPSEU/SEFPO represents many thousands of members working in the province’s 24 colleges of applied arts and technology. They are divided among three divisions, with each division having its own collective agreement: College Faculty (CAAT-A), College Support Full-Time (CAAT-S) and Support Staff Part-Time.
The Government of Ontario employs more than 60,000 public servants in the Ontario Public Service (OPS), which includes ministries, agencies and Crown corporations. About half of them are represented by OPSEU/SEFPO. These members help the government develop and deliver a vast number of policies, programs and services for the people of Ontario.
