This amazing young man, Bryan, has just secured a job as an Estates Support Assistant at Bishop Auckland College after successfully completing his supported internship and the whole college are elated for him. Since joining the SEN provision at the college, many years ago, Bryan has not only developed his academic skills he has also developed a wide range of employability skills going from strength to strength. Perfectly supported by the most amazing, dedicated staff he has grown throughout his internship and today he was appointed to his new role after (what our HR team referred to as) the most enthusiastic interview the college has ever seen. Look what can happen when we focus on what we CAN do not what we can’t. If you are reading this and think your organisation would be great to host a supported internship, drop me a message (or your nearest college if you are not near Bishop Auckland) it will be life changing for all involved.

This has to be one of the most popular appointments the College has ever made. Bryan is already a legend in our organisation and it’s fantastic that he is now an official member of staff. I’m proud to be his colleague.

Congratulations to all the shortlisted nominees and winners at last night’s #MakeYourMark awards. It was great to be there with our team from South West Durham Training and see so many of our partners recognised for their great work. I was extremely proud to hear Paul Hind talk about the role SWDT has played in his hugely successful career. (I’ll remember it every time I use ‘Paul’s roundabout’). We love being part of Aycliffe Business Park! A huge well done to Martin Walker Dave Allan Gary Philipson Kerina Clark Pamela Petty Sarah Monk Thomas Prentice & all those that put on an amazing event.
