TeeBox Indoor Golf Club is now open in metro Phoenix. Here's everything you can do there (2024)

Make room, TopGolf and PopStroke, TeeBox Indoor Golf Club is the latest entertainment destination in metro Phoenix to offer state-of-the-art golfing technology.

Owner Jim Bucklin, an avid golfer who lives in Cave Creek, noticed an absence of indoor golf facilities and the potential year-round market for indoor golf. He chose Cave Creek as the location for his first establishment because of its reputation as a golfing destination, boasting 21 courses within a 10-mile radius.

With a goal to provide a space for golfers of all levels to practice, TeeBox prioritizes skill development with state-of-the-art simulator bays. It also offers a menu of upscale comfort foods and a bar pouring Arizona beers along with other beverages.

Here is everything to know about TeeBox Indoor Golf Club, now open in Cave Creek.

What is TeeBox Indoor Golf Club?

TeeBox Indoor Golf Club has 11 simulator bays equipped with TrackMan technology that provides precise data on club performance and swing analysis.

What to expect at TeeBox Indoor Golf Club

Each simulator bay is 19 feet wide and 26 feet deep, equipped with high-definition screens and laser projectors. Golfers can swing comfortably without feeling restricted.

“We like to keep it four or five people golfing; that's about the maximum that we find is a benefit to them to have a good experience. We can have up to 15 people in a bay, but that's kind of pushing it. Really, six to eight people is the best, including spectators and players,” said Bucklin.

The 11,100-square-foot venue is reminiscent of a traditional golf clubhouse. A bar area near the entrance provides a focal point for socializing.

Seating areas throughout accommodate small groups and larger gatherings. One patio spans 4,400 square feet and has a large artificial grass putting green; another has 125 seats, heaters and misters.

What is TrackMan technology?

Developed by a Danish company called TrackMan A/S, TrackMan uses radar technology to measure various parameters of a golf shot, including club speed, ball speed, launch angle, spin rate and trajectory. This data is analyzed to provide golfers with detailed insights into their performance.

TrackMan devices are typically positioned on the ground behind the golfer or mounted on a tripod. They use Doppler radar to measure the movement of the golf ball.

“It's information that now you can go, ‘Oh wow, here's what I'm doing with my club and my swing, here's what the result is with the ball, at this launch angle, or this land angle with that spin," Bucklin said. "Without that information, you're guessing. With a game that's as precise as golf, you can eliminate the guesswork by having the information.”

TrackMan golf courses

Bucklin says TrackMan produces about five new courses per month, with about 350 currently in the database. Drones fly over each course, mapping the topography to create a realistic playing experience. Among the courses in the database are:

  • Augusta National Golf Club: This club in Georgia is known for its lush green fairways and landmarks such as Amen Corner and Rae's Creek. The layout includes narrow fairways and undulating greens. Amen Corner, comprising holes 11, 12 and 13, presents particularly difficult challenges, especially on a windy day.
  • St. Andrews Links: This club in Scotland is famous for its historic layout, expansive fairways and views of the coastline. Unpredictable weather, combined with the deep bunkers and challenging greens, makes St. Andrews a formidable test. The 17th hole is famous for its difficulty.
  • Pebble Beach Golf Links: This California course offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, with several holes alongside rocky cliffs and crashing waves. The layout's challenges include small greens and unpredictable coastal winds. The closing stretch of holes, including the par-3 17th and the dramatic par-5 18th, adds to the difficulty.
