The 76ers made the splash of the offseason, signing Paul George away from his hometown Clippers. And in so doing, the 76ers increased their odds on DraftKings Sportsbook to +800 to win the NBA title next season.

So should we believe the hype about the 76ers? Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. were joined by 76ers play-by-play analyst Kate Scott on Thursday’s show to talk about Philly and where they stand heading into 2024-25.
But before getting to that, the guys had to ask about her becoming one of the voices of the famed Madden video game. Kate will be a part of one of three announcing teams in the game, paired with former NFL QB Brock Huard. Kate had to sign an NDA to initially keep the news a secret, which was hard because she wanted to share the news with Senior because she says she doesn’t get the gig without her season of calling college football with him. Calling football with Senior taught her that she could really call it and that she actually loved calling it. When it comes to the Madden gig, she says she had to audition in the summer of 2022 by just commentating over the game. The Madden folks were were looking for something new and energetic and they really wanted to remind people it’s a video game.

"They wanted to remind people that it's a video game. We're going to throw shade your way if you have thrown four interceptions in the 1st quarter." pic.twitter.com/0W68ujkHgS
Before moving onto Sixers talk, GoJo had to know if Kate had a moment of, wow, I’m in freakin’ Madden!
— GoJo and Golic (@GoJoandGolic) July 11, 2024.@mikegolicjr asks: Has there been a moment for @katetscott of, wow, I'm in Madden?
"Well, maybe it was that the first station I interned for...Madden was what put them over the top to do a 24-sec feature on me & use maybe the worst picture I've ever seen of me on the internet" pic.twitter.com/a79UjJKvJg
Moving on to the 76ers, what does Kate think adding Paul George will mean for the 76ers? Kate thinks he is the perfect complement to the 76ers’ incumbent top two. He was the big fish in the offseason and he wanted to come to Philly. which Kate says is important because the City of Brotherly Love isn’t always the easiest place to play. You’ve got to earn it and if you’re not playing well, Sixers fans will let you know. After seeing Joel Embiid miss significant time last season, Kate says Daryl Morey and the front office knew that they had to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Now if Embiid or Tyrese Maxey go down, they have George to pick up the slack. Now all they have to do is make it happen on the court.

"Yeah, I mean it's massive...I think he's the perfect compliment to the two guys that are already the big stars on the Sixers." @katetscott @mikegolicjr / @DKNetwork pic.twitter.com/Y2vhQjdqAJ
As noted above, the 76ers improved their odds to win the title with the addition of George, going from +1200 to +800. Senior wants to know how Philly is now to overtaking the defending champion Celtics. Kate says right now, before playing together and just on paper, they have to be considered on a tier just below Boston. The East is stacked right now, with many old-school rivalries set to reignite with teams like the Knicks, 76ers, Heat, Magic and Bucks all looking to contend. Kate points out that she tried to remind everyone last year that the 76ers were one of the few teams to beat the Celtics. But by adding PG, as well as role players like Caleb Martin, Andre Drummond and Eric Gordon, she sees the 76ers in the tier right below Boston in year two of the Nick Nurse era in Philly.

“I think right now, before they play together, just on paper, they’re in that next tier below the Celtics, right?”
